Someone Like You by Van Morrison

I've been searching a long time for someone exactly like you
I've been travelling all around the world waiting for you to come through.
Someone like you makes it all worth while
Someone like you keeps me satisfied
Someone exactly like you.

I've been travellin' a hard road lookin' for someone exactly like you
I've been carryin' my heavy load waiting for the light to come shining through.
Someone like you makes it all worthwhile
Someone like you keeps me satisfied.
Someone exactly like you.

I've been doin' some soul searching to find out where you're at
I've been up and down the highway in all kinds of foreign lands
Someone like you...

I've been all around the world marching to the beat of a different drum.
But just lately I have realized the best is yet to come.
Someone like you...

it's been so long since I went out with Je! really steady night lang last night...we went to a birthday party in Racks though the vodka sprite was really a bad mix...there seems to be so many places now that feature live acts. it was just great hanging out with her, jerome and gerry...

if not for friends, i probably wouldn't go out anymore. The dating scene is just starting to turn me off again. Seems there are a lot of "frogs" out there or maybe i just refuse to waste my time. What's the point right? and i'm saving these guys some money by not spending it on me if I know it isn't going to go anywhere naman diba? sigh.

i've been so sluggish this week. i just prefer to stay at home, watch movies and SLEEP! Gad! just put me on a bed and i'll pass out almost instantly. maybe it's because i studied this week. brain drain! Can't wait to go out of town with my buddies! just a relaxing weekend at the beach...

at least my friend Francis said he's planning to open a comedy club near Aposento Makati soon. I hope he got in touch with my other friends for the comedy acts...but that would be a good alternative again to the whole dance-y/poser bullshit that goes on in those other places.

anyway, i'm kinda excited bec. we're going to watch Pirates of the Caribbean tonight. oooh lotta hunks in that movie! especially Johnny Depp! can you believe that guy is in his 40s? if all girls could only be so lucky to have our men in their 40s and still look that hot! haha

they seem to be having this Corey Haim fest on cable...first it was Lost Boys then now i'm watching Silver Bullet...i hope they show Lucas soon. Remember that movie? when Winona Ryder was still being cast as the "other girl"? hehe...

but on a sad note: please pray for the wife and unborn baby of one of my teachers. They passed away the other day. sigh. sniff.

just as i was saying thanks to God for making sure Frances was safe bec. of that stupid robbery in Citibank the other day.

...days like these you should really be thankful for being alive and well.

last Saturday, the girls and I decided to watch a chick flick - who else would enjoy these types of movies but girls right? - but before i get into that, i would like to recommend that restaurant in Greenbelt 3 called Recipes. I never had the nerve to try the place before but they serve really yummy dishes and the prices ain't bad either! service is good and fast.

Anyway, we watched View From the Top. Gwyneth is apparently trying to get back into the public's eye as the "darling" but this movie isn't a really great notch on her belt. Script leaves much to be desired although she pulls off the adorable chick that we can all relate to. Very simple, and so are the director's shots and treatment. I think the soundtrack proved more effective in tapping into our emotions. This is also the first time I saw Mark Ruffalo and i think he can do much better...he can be offered more romantic-comedies but this character he had to play was so one-dimensional. Talk about your ideal man! couldn't he have a few flaws? it just seemed so unrealistic. That is what draws us to certain people, their idiosyncracies :)

watched the Italian Job last night in greenbelt 3...it delivered more than i expected! it's a feel good movie actually with great action sequences and it will DEFINITELY make you want to buy your own mini cooper. Of course all my friends said - get a licence first margarita isabel escueta! haha...don't worry, i'm getting there :)

But the one that really got our attention was Charlize Theron. I always admired this girl...after watching Sweet November. Yes, I didn't watch that movie for Keanu Reeves and no i'm not a lesbian. haha. Even frances was admiring her...she was just absolutely gorgeous in this movie - how many girls do you know still look great even while crying? none right? hehe. i wish i had her legs!

But i think this was a good project for director F. Gary Gray. I will never forget his name now not because it sounds like a cartoon character but because he knows how to shoot action scenes. Sorry but Michael Bay has lost his touch as evidenced in Bad Boys II. Anyway, the images were gorgeous! especially in Venice and other parts of Europe. He still does not have the sharp edge of Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven) but give him some time people...he will knock your socks off as he gets more experience and more movies. He has directed The Negotiator with Kevin Spacey & Samuel L. Jackson and Set It Off with Queen Latifah,Halle Berry & Jada Pinkett. Now do you believe me? this man has P-O-T-E-N-T-I-A-L.

Here's an excerpt from another woman's movie review column:
Stella (Charlize Theron) is the only girl in The Italian Job. As it's a remake of a 1969 Michael Caine heist picture, you'd think that her input would be minimal. But Stella brings surprising edge and occasional finesse to her by-the-numbers role (originally male), not to mention crucial elements to the plot, namely, safecracking skills, an earnest desire for vengeance, and a Mini Cooper.

Still, she's up against it in this too-many-guys-vying-for-supporting-pizzazz picture. Stella is introduced right away, in a pose that underlines just how much she is The Girl. Her veteran safecracker father John (Donald Sutherland) calls her on his cell from Venice. She's in bed, filtered light making her sleepy sexy underweared self look even gauzier. And yet, the moment complicates what it can mean to be The Girl...

...Here, former model and current (June 2003) Elle covergirl Theron embodies a persuasive mix of vulnerability and anger, recalling some of her most beguilingly odd work, in 2 Days in the Valley (1996), Devil's Advocate (1997), Mighty Joe Young (1998), and The Astronaut's Wife (1999). If she hasn't picked the most spectacular projects of late (Sweet November [2001], Trapped [2002]), Theron consistently brings a layered sensibility to her characters, part exposed and part steely. The talk in the Elle article, about "the toughest woman in Hollywood," concentrates on her upcoming role in Monster, based on the life of Aileen Wuornos. As this focus suggests, The Italian Job is inherently less interesting than even the idea of Theron playing a serial killer. Still, in this mega-boys' movie, Theron makes Stella sharper and more complicated than any of them.

ok my last comment after reading another review about the movie...apparently Edward Norton was not willing to do this movie but he was forced by the production company. There seems to be truth in this rumor since his acting seemed very contrived. Even Mark Wahlberg was so stoic the whole time. Or maybe they thought that the script didn't call for much emotion or acting. Or they wanted to do the whole Brad Pitt/George Clooney style of less is more. But they still lack the panache of these veteran actors. What will make you watch this movie though is the rest of the gang: that guy from Transporter and Lock Stock, a new black actor who has good comedic timing, and Seth Green ---the napster! hehe

just had dinner with the girls in World Topps. Haven't been there in a while and I was getting sick of the selection in Greenbelt hehe. But we still end up there anyway! but just for a slice of Mudpie in Segafredo and some Espresso Truffles from Bizu. Man it sucks that everyone is free from school and work tomorrow...except in AIM! aaargh. I'm actually pretty packed with stuff to study for over the weekend and I've been going out too much this week so I think i'll just stay in :D or catch a movie.

I'm kinda excited for tomorrow bec. we'll be having a girl's night out with all the chikas of MBM2004 to catch Alex and Emma or View from the Top. you know what? i think i've been staying up late too much because it's starting to show in my eyes. I actually dreamt that my eyes got so strained already (well with all the cases we have to read in aim!) that pretty soon i couldn't see anything anymore! uh oh. i hope that dream doesn't come true! i'm blind! i'm blind!

Oh darn! almost forgot i'm supposed to watch Keka this weekend! hmmm watched Prosti the other night with a friend. Well what can i say, Aubrey Miles looks really good. especially when she's not wearing any makeup on her face. But she can't cry! she can't act! too bad because the cinematography and direction was really good. Maybe she should take some more acting lessons. She's a far cry from Rosanna Roces who may be a sexy star but she can act!

I am a self-confessed magazine addict. I have to buy around 2 or three each week. I find that the articles found in these thin little book-wannabes are just as interesting as any fiction you can dream of. Oh yes, and of course there's the fashion. But amidst the usual InStyle, Allure and Mega I have also found a preference for men's magazines. Why? because sometimes they have more wit and interesting topics to talk about. I also buy Stuff (not the one about the chicks, the one about the gadgets!) but only the british editions. The asean one lacks something for me. on the local front, I like MenZone. Not too many scantilly clad women that I have to shield the cover from the preying eyes in Starbucks/Figaro...and they cover a wide variety of subject matter. Not just gadgets, not just women, not just sports. There are also articles on political issues, corporate developments and personalities.

Today I discovered two new soon-to-be faves. One is called StopOver which a friend had casually mentioned writing for. I presumed it to be a Travel magazine. But upon more inspection over my cafe latte, I would like to congratulate Ms. Myra Santiago for an excellent line-up of stories and photos. I really like the Stopover Logbook which gives you a rundown of all the places, fiestas or occasions you can take a weekend off to catch. I have only relied on the schedule from the Visitor's Guide to the Phils. which doesn't say much anyway. Then we move on to a unique glimpse of the artist Ben Cabrera. But we've seen countless articles on his artwork, have you ever seen his house/studio? it's a reflection of how he lives his life each day. Ok i can't really mention every morsel of excellent writing in this magazine but just to give you an idea: it talks about underwater hockey, windsurfing in anilao, PDAs and the latest got-to-have-it gear, a culinary tour of italy, the many faces of kalinga, sagada, a love affair with coffee, a fashion shoot in pagudpud, interior design and a visit to Cambodia. This is not your usual travel magazine is it? I told you so.

Next on my list is Lifestyle Asia with a new format. Bigger size, without the old border focusing on one face. This issue’s cover features young heirs in Philippine society. I would call them the “young guns”…Ah Ms. Sari Yap has again proven to me that her good taste is reflected in the magazines in which she is editor. I am an avid admirer of Mega magazine simply because it does not try too hard. If you want me to make an analogy, this magazine is like the quiet young woman, very unassuming yet full of wit and charm…amidst a lot of posers, nouveau riche, and pretentious bombshells. But don’t take this analogy to heart. Don’t get me wrong, I also buy the others…I just prefer the tempo that Mega puts in their writing, pictures and fashion spreads. I don’t know how else to elaborate on this.

Anyway, going back to Lifestyle Asia…I would urge you to buy the latest issue especially for the article “Is the Filipino Male Evolving?” by Vicki de Leon. I think it shows a good outlook on the men that we girls meet everyday…and a symbol of what others strive to be. And I quote: “A good example of the modern bachelor: he is well educated, well traveled, cultures, enjoys going out with friends regularly, is close to the members of his family and even if he has everything he ever wanted at his parents’ home, he chooses to live on his own…but there are those who are stuck in a time warp and refuse to changes. Some sons are so coddled that they have absolutely no inclination to leave the nest at all. Blame cannot be laid solely on the bachelor – with some parents giving him access to all their cars, buying him everything he wants, asking him for no contribution from his paycheck and taking him on expensive family vacations – who would ever want to leave home? To these men, I can only quote Rosseau,” To conquer fortune and everything else, begin by independence.”

Haha thank God I know more of those who fit the description of the “modern bachelor” as opposed to “spoiled bachelor”

have you guys seen this gucci ad? I read somewhere that it has sparked a new trend...women are now waxing/shaving their pubes in the shape of different symbols, letters and what-not...

i find it funny actually! and it reminds me of an episode on SATC where one of samantha's guys shaves her down there. Then she finds out that she's not the only one he's sleeping with when she goes to a sauna and sees another girl with the same isignia! bwahaha! lemme quote a friend: "men are horny toads" haha :P

It was the anniversary of my former companeee! so i rushed right over and got the biggest enthusiastic welcome! gosh i realized i missed my friends in this company. We all couldn't stop shouting and hugging! and of course took some pictures. Sigh.

My body is…not a wonderland…it is aching!!…the other day I only had classes in the morning so I decided to go to the gym. Upon the instructor’s advice, I did only cardio which meant the rowing machine, the treadmill and that step machine thing…goddamn my legs and arms hurt but it was really great! The whole of next day I was so upbeat and everyone was kinda wondering why I was in such a good mood. I dunno if it was really the exercise but I felt really great the other day.

Our classes also ended early yesterday so decided to keep the pace and play tennis instead. Rockwell was already fully booked so ended up in Polo Club. Oh man what a grueling workout! My arms are still hurting though usually I get tennis elbow but didn’t this time. Thank God! Do you know how painful that is? The last time I got tennis elbow I couldn’t sleep in the pain! I guess I was hitting it properly this time hehe. But instead of feeling rejuvenated today I was kinda dead. Really pooped. So today I decided to just watch a movie with my friends. Marc, Frances, Gue and I were supposed to watch The Italian Job but it’s not showing pa pala! We then decided on A League of Ordinary Gentlemen. But the seats left sucked so change of plans once again to…the In-Laws. I don’t think marc was pleased when he arrived and we had already bought the tickets hehe. But it was funny. Of course, ANYTHING with Ryan Reynolds I will like. I want to marry him!

Beneath the Surface by Incognito

Here I sit and watch the crowds go by
But there’s only one face I could see
If only they could understand
I’d open the door and let him in

How long can I hide
What I’m feeling inside
My love is a river that’s got to make its way to sea
This feeling can’t hide
Lord knows I’ve tried

Beneath the surface

I’ve tried though I know I’m hanging on a string
You’re the only one thing on my mind
I keep floating to a distant shore
As I go on denying myself

just joined Friendster today (thanks to vince) and found so many old friends and acquaintances in like 5 minutes! unbe-fucking-lievable! hahaha!

plus my friends and i put together a text group in Globe. If you are as clueless as I was, you can put together a text group on the globe website then make a name for it and when you text to that group via 2355 all the members get your message! but be warned, you each pay a buck per text or something like that hehe. the thought came about when the three of us were chatting last night on yahoo. we're basically Charlie's Angels chicks (i know, i know that's not original but what the heck!) i got dibs on Drew (any guy she falls for MUST be bad! hehe) bec. i think she's the cutest and coolest hehe...

Oh yeah...have a new favorite song for the month. Just got the lyrics:

SUNRISE by Simply Red

As I look into your eyes I see the sunrise,
The light behind your face helps me realise.
Will we sleep and sometimes love until the moon shines,
Maybe the next time I’ll be yours and maybe you’ll be mine.

I don’t know if it’s even in your mind at all,
It could be me at this moment in time.
Is it in your mind at all, it should be me, it could be me, forever.

Wandering through life will love come home to you,
And the love you want forever, will they be true to you.
Will we sleep and sometimes love until the moon shines,
Maybe the next time I’ll be yours and maybe you’ll be mine.

Easy, ready, willing, over time,
Where does it stop where do you dare me to draw the line.
You’ve got the body now you want my soul,
Don’t even think about it say no go.

I do recall repeatedly saying yesterday: what have i got to lose?

Check out my horoscope
Mon Aug. 11, 2003 by Astrocenter.com
How do you know that it will all turn out dismally, when you haven't even taken the first step yet? The current planetary aspect indicates that you cannot, from your current vantage point, determine just what will happen. Your special friend is waiting for you to make that move, but still you doubt yourself. Let's be honest - from where you stand right now, what do you have to lose?

hahahaha!

and tomorrow's...
Tue Aug. 12, 2003 by Astrocenter.com
There is an intensity about this day. It may be like a feeling of a storm about to break. Something in your romantic life has to give, as the tension is becoming unbearable. Don't be frightened to let go and allow the change to take place. It needs to happen so that freedom and more happiness can occur between you, and a more profound relationship can begin.

rollercoaster week! but fun none the less...

Had a simulation of general management in the form of a game tuesday, thursday and friday. To make things more exciting, we were served pansit and beer on the last day. This shows that even in an inebriated state, you gotta still make sure your company will not die! coolness. I could hardly walk straight and JV said I was slurring. bwahaha!

thursday night watched Bad Boys II with Jepong. Then searched for ANY place where we could smoke and drink...ended up in that Grill near Rockwell where i introduced San Miguel's latest beer: Strong Ice which hits you like Red Horse but cools your throat. Imagine menthol cigs in the form of a beer.

Friday...after the drunken game (the vodka smuggled in during the game also helped) went out with Trika to the Globe party in Dreambar. Met up with emil and the other guys. I was asked to join the contest to win a Nokia 3300 (tama ba yon? basta yung latest!)...little did i know i had to parade around the goddarn bar while the people would stick these yellow stickers on me. the contestant with the most stickers won the phone. Of course I didn't win. But it was fun. I've had the guts to do anything lately so what the hell right? got nothing to lose! hehe...anyway, nice to bump into Ane and met some other really cool people. I flaked on the V party bec. it was just too late already and after that afternoon's activities I was pretty much out of it. Got home around 3:30am I think. Thanks Bixie and Candy for the ride home!

Saturday watched Finding Nemo for the second time with Frances and marc. Then went to Proville to audition for some commercial. i cannot act for the life of me but again...what the hell right? nothing to lose! haha...we transferred to my house to catch the last 2 quarters of the dlsu vs. admu game where we DID lose. awww but it's all good.

wasn't planning to go out at night but ended up bar hopping with Macky and Gue (haha I said your name! hi to his sister Tammy who i heard reads my blog. hello dearie!) went to Ponticello, then the Globe party in Ebisu where we got some free drinks (thanks eric and boo!) and again bumped into old buddies...man! i didn't realize how long i've been out of this scene! but even with the sabbatical, still feel very welcome :D Was about to check out Wasabi but bumped into Bryan who said it was too hot and crowded inside so they transferred so decided to check out Absinth instead. It was ok, although Ayala botched up the centralized airconditioning. After one drink we got hungry so last stop: Tiananmen. Best spot the whole night! pigged out on these yummy noodles and dimsum. Luuuuuuuv tiananmen! especially late nights when the kids are gone and everyone is just chilling. Steady sounds and atmosphere to transport your mind to the beach. Except you're lounging on the pillows and candlelight.

Today, just coffee and r&b to wind the weekend down...

I'm watching Bad Boys II tonight! chris, i will find out if it sucks or not. Although I noticed you and I don't share the same tastes in movies. A lot of people said it was really good so i will see for myself.

just watched the best animated movie i've ever seen...FINDING NEMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Even better than Monsters Inc., Toy Story, or Ice Age! and i already adore those movies...

Thanks to dondi & his honey Sookie...plus everyone else: Denise, Corey,Mike, Anton etc. in Rockwell tonight. Was a blast!
Want to watch this movie over and over and over and over again! so if any of you need kasama you know who to call! hehe...have just dumped two "movie dates" from my list for similar reasons. Ugh! brought back the memories. They're both jerks anyway. My friends say so...my bro says so...why don't I ever listen to their judgment? sigh.

to everyone who texted me today - just to check if they were the ones I was referring to in the last post - don't worry...see a smiley face at the end of the message? that shows it ain't you! i love my friends!

although that "person" i mentioned DID text today! yeesh...i guess i'm not such a big a bitch after all. grrr...

my horoscope yesterday:
There are times when even you, who are patience and discipline incarnate, tend to go over the top with something. Today you could completely lose it concerning a certain person. Your fantasy button gets pressed, and before you know it, you are lost to the task in hand, and living some time in the future. Fantasy is fine within reason, but too much will bring you disappointment.

DISAPPOINTMENT being the key word! and i guess i did lose it. self-control not being one of my strong points. hey i'm a scorpio what did you expect? we are passionate and extreme. Never a middle ground. So don't bullshit me. Don't waste my time.

let me repeat what i said a few days ago...

I AM NOT INTO EMOTIONAL FUCKWITTAGE! - Bridget Jones
This is what she said to eliminate all the fucking bullshit in her life. Well, let's just say i'm a mix of frustration, confusion and anger. I got over the sadness about a few hours ago...yeah i'm a fucking drama queen...i'm also psycho. ain't it obvious? well anyway, am eliminating all the fucking bullshit in my life. no time to start but today. am i cursing a lot? sorry about that. I'll stop now.

breathe in...breathe out...no i'm not smoking. Imagine I was thinking of quitting today. I was really thinking about it on my way to school if I would light that first stick. Guess which choice i took?

I also took someone's name out of my phone book today. That's a big deal for me, i never erase your name unless I have stricken you from past and most especially future. Don't you just hate it when all you've done is be nice to this person only to be taken advantage of? for whatever reason: selfishness, ego, meanness, who the hell cares. Good riddance. I doubt that person will read this but if it happens, here's my message to you --- i will ignore you for the rest of my life.

well the party went as planned yesterday...at first i was kind of nervous because had some problems loading all the equipment to the third floor. note to self, make sure there is an equipment lift when your event is higher than two floors. Everything came out ok though, the caterer was unbelievable professional and took pride in her work. you can tell from the excellent service that she and her staff gave that evening. The mobile was also good, and they knew how to handle a musical event. i was also very happy to see that the ME class showed up even when they said they wouldn't. The MBM, MM and MDM classes were there of course and enjoyed SOUND during their first set. As usual, leave it to some people to criticize. Doesn't this school encourage critical analysis? geezus. Had complaints that the students should perform already even when i saw they were still eating. I apparently did not follow protocol that some teachers found it insulting bect i did not personally invite them. the printed invitation i designed and sent was not enough. Well, now i know that it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to please everyone. Someone will always complain...even until the next day. I was just sitting in the side with the other guys from SOUND most of the evening so that I could take everything in and enjoy it. I got so many congratulations from people, you'd think i delivered a baby. haha...but it was really great to see the first year students - who may i remind you is the sole reason for this party - enjoy the food, drinks and entertainment.

Today there were still some calls and text messages...both congrats and STILL some complaints. unbelievable. Anyway, after the party last night a few of us went to Pipers and I did something for the first time - i sang in front of everyone. Stephen, an old college friend sings there every friday and thanks to my friends egging me on, i went in front and sang "Friend of Mine" in my lousy tone-deaf voice! haha...hey at least i can say i did that once...and not in a karaoke bar.

Maybe tonight will be fun. Going to cecile's bday party in malate then going to this other party nearby.
